Mr. Dias and
Ms. Singh in 1996 were very much aware that English medium education is the
best weapon for their destitute girl children who will come to the orphanage to
survive in the world, as Amcha Ghar beneficiaries took admission at a very
young age i.e., 3yrs and above. They
thought that a child should stay at least till 18 – 20 years of age. After their
stay of 12-15 years at orphanage, children will be still not well equipped to
face the world when the time of rehabilitation comes. It was well known that children,
who could converse in English, had more confidence to leap in the world in
spite of all iniquities. That very thought gave birth to an idea to start their
own school in the minds of Mr. Dias & Ms. Singh. They soon realized that
there is no good school in Uttan & decided to have a English medium School
with good Standard so that Uttan Children needn’t go anywhere far from Uttan.
A lady then
comes in the form of an Angel to start a nursery School which she couldn’t
manage by herself. But willingly she accepted to start that kinder garden with 7
children and ran for 2 years. Then some friends motivated us to restart the
great job and hence we applied for school and well wishers expressed desire to
support our venture. But the files got lost and stuck at Mantralaya. After
great difficulties we applied for the permission to run a school with the
education department. It took a long time and frequent visits to Mantralaya.
Finally we got a permission to run a primary school in 2002.
their words in mind, we took up the challenge of starting our own school. But alas!
They disappeared from the venture. This time all files were under the name of
St. Jude School. Later in that process our earlier file was re-located, since
then we kept patron of our school St. Jude (who is known as listener to
hopeless cases) and we started working on it. We took permission on up to STD IV.
We worked really hard for forming the base & natural growth and permission
was granted every year for further STD.
On 17 June 2002 our school was inaugurated by
Mr. Gilbert John Mendonsa in the rental premises of Mr. Terrance D’souza. The
rent started Rs. 700 per room and increased up to 5000/- per room after 12yrs. As
rent was growing year by year but we couldn’t take high fee as School is a nonprofit
organization & Social Entrepreneurship.
